iPad vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 2010

Posted by Admin | 12:40 AM | iPad, Samsung, Samsung Galaxy Tab |

The Android vs. Apple battle has officially made its way into the world of tablets.

Samsung took the wraps off its new Samsung Galaxy Tab Android tablet on Thursday. The Galaxy Tab is a 7-inch slate built to complete with the current tablet king, Apple's thus-far-unchallenged iPad.

Sure, there have been a couple other Android tablets on the market already (see Streak, Dell), but the Galaxy Tab is the first that truly qualifies as a contender.

Samsung Galaxy Tab*According to manufacturers' estimatesSo how exactly does Samsung's Galaxy Tab differ from the iPad? Check out this comparison chart for a side-by-side glimpse at the two devices' specs and see for yourself. (Click image to zoom.)

In a nutshell, the Galaxy Tab is smaller and lighter (though rumors suggest a couple of larger editions will debut before the year's end). It has the same speed processor but twice the RAM. Like the iPad, the Galaxy Tab comes with different options for internal storage. It also, however, supports up to 32GB of expandable storage; Apple's device is limited to the internal space only.

The Galaxy Tab has two cameras -- a rear-facing 3.2-megapixel camera and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video chatting -- while the current models of the iPad have none. Samsung claims up to 7 hours of video playback for the Galaxy Tab; Apple says its iPad can last up to 10 hours.

In terms of software, the Galaxy Tab's Android 2.2 operating system gives the device a number of selling points Apple's iPad can't claim, including full-featured multitasking, support for Adobe Flash, and unrestricted access to applications (Apple is notorious for censoring all sorts of material -- ranging from political satire to swimsuit-clad women -- and also for banning apps that provide functions such as free tethering and customization of the operating system).

Samsung's Galaxy Tab is set to launch in Europe within the next few weeks, then in the U.S. shortly thereafter. Pricing and carrier information for the States is not yet available, though rumors suggest the Galaxy Tab could end up on Verizon

WHY YOU SHOULD BUY AN iPHONE 4?

Here's why Apple's iPhone 4 is the best business phone ever put on the market:

Superior Speakerphone
Business people need high-quality speakerphones. The iPhone 4 may provide the best speakerphone experience of any existing mobile phone.

The source of this quality comes from improvements to noise-cancellation software, a second mic for noise cancellation and improved microphone and speaker electronics. Most interestingly, the iPhone 4 boasts a very well designed "audio chamber," which improves the audio quality of speakerphone calls.

On the iPhone 4, the other caller will sound much better to you during speakerphone calls, and you'll sound better to them.

Full-size Keyboard Support
The iPhone 4 is the first iPhone to support Bluetooth keyboards right out of the gate. Just connect your keyboard like you would any other Bluetooth device, and now you can type Notes, e-mails and other missives with a real, full-size keyboard. It's great for meetings, and ideal for that cramped airplane tray table.

Cloud Sync for Notes
Most iPhone owners to date have had little use for the Notes app on the iPhone. But the iPhone 4 (as well as older iPhones running the new iOS 4) enables you to save Notes documents directly to an IMAP-capable e-mail system, such as Gmail or Yahoo Mail.

The Notes app syncs and assigns the label "Notes" to every item. Future searches for "Notes" brings up all of them. You can also sync different notes to different e-mail accounts, so you can keep business and personal notes separate.

The combination of Bluetooth keyboard support and Notes backup or syncing on cloud-based e-mail means the iPhone 4 is newly optimized for taking notes in meetings and generally using in place of a netbook for some users.

FaceTime... for Family
Apple's videoconferencing solution is nearly useless for business videoconferencing. Both parties need both Wi-Fi and iPhone 4s, and that's not something you can count on in the business world.

Besides, if you're going to do videoconferencing for business, you'd be well advised to do such calls from your desktop or laptop -- or from dedicated conferencing solutions.

iPhone 4 gives business people something much more valuable: Connection to family.

People who travel on business need to maintain connections to spouse and kids. Phone calls are nice, but FaceTime video calls are ideal. By buying an iPhone 4 for yourself, and another one for your spouse, you can share business adventures with loved ones, and you won't miss everything back home.

Photos and Video with One Under-appreciated Feature
Camera phones seems to decline in quality over time, and users usually don't understand why. The reason is that tiny camera-phone lenses are very hard to clean.

Camera phones live in pockets or other lint-filled places, such as purses and briefcases. They inevitably collect a tiny layer of microscopic dust bunnies that are hard to see, but that can subtly reduce picture quality. Even if you clean the lens, you'll usually find a layer of this stuff around the edges because they can't be reached by whatever means you're using to clean the lens.

The iPhone 4 camera lens -- both of them, actually -- are sealed behind glass. By cleaning the glass, which is easy, you can always bring your camera lens back to its brand-new level of cleanliness.

That fact combined with iPhone 4's respectable 5-megapixel camera with 5x digital zoom, HD video capability and on-phone iMovie video editing means that for insurance agents, real estate agents and a wide range of professional who need to take pictures for whatever reason, the iPhone 4 is good enough to replace a dedicated digital camera.

Google music service has iTunes in sight

Posted by Admin | 6:10 PM | Google, iTunes, Music |

Reuters reported that Google's VP of engineering Andy Rubin had has been conducting talks with record labels. Record insiders are excited about the possibility of Apple and Google challenging each other on the digital music front.

According to the publication's sources, Google's music service is set to launch "before Christmas". However, Google has yet to sign a deal with record labels yet.

Music is the latest battleground for Google as Apple has held a 7 year control with iTunes, which holds 70 percent of all U.S. digital music sales. But with Google claiming to activate 200,000 devices a day, they might already have a foothold in the digital music market.

"Finally here's an entity with the reach, resources and wherewithal to take on iTunes as a formidable competitor by tying it into search and Android mobile platform. What you'll have is a very powerful player in the market that's good for the music business," said an anonymous record label executive.

Review of the Blackberry Bold 9700

The latest addition to the phone which is of considerable note is the optical track pad. Possibly a salute to the touchscreen phones that abound (including the BlackBerry Storm), the optical track pad sits flush against the body of the phone, seemingly innocuous. It is deceptive though as the pad is quite a bit more powerful that its predecessor. It supports swipe gestures and manages a significantly faster navigation of the phone in general.

There is a 3.2 megapixel camera, complete with an LED flash. Again, this is step up from the previous Bold which only had a 2 megapixel camera. While the BlackBerry isn't meant to snap art-quality pictures, 3.2 megapixels are lower than average in the phone market.

The screen is high-resolution with 480x360 pixels supporting HVGA.

Connectivity (9/10)

The BlackBerry has every conceivable connectivity option, including GPS, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, and Bluetooth. The T-Mobile version of the device also supports WiFi calling; an option that will reduce spending on call minutes a great deal.

Performance (9/10)

The 256 MB built-in application memory is definitely improved as it as doubled in size from the first Bold. Application loading and transitions are visibly faster as a result. The processor is quite a bit stronger as well, so the overall operation of the phone is much snappier than before.

Value for Money (8/10)

The phone accomplishes what it sets out to do admirably, so it is definitely value for money. The only changes that would have made a positive difference are that the screen is quite small and that the camera could have potentially been better.

Pros

+ Excellent design, continues the classic trend of the previous Bold

+ Keypad has improved, with texture to add to the ease of typing

+ Optical track pad has replaced the trackball, and now supports swipe gestures

+ 256 MB RAM, and faster processor

+ Screen resolution is excellent

Cons

- Improved camera, with 3.2 megapixels - but still on the low side comparitively

- Screen is quite small

The Bold is also known offers new or updated applications for BlackBerry Messenger, WHERE GPS, and Mobi4Biz.

According to many cellphone philippines enthusiasts, the Blackberry Bold has generally been positively reviewed by critics. Bonnie Cha of CNET rated the phone as "Excellent" and praised the phone's screen and multimedia capabilities.

However, there were several technical issues pertaining to its softwares as well as with its hardware. According to many cellphone philippines enthusiasts, the BlackBerry Bold had overheating problem that it became too hot to handle. This problem seems to have affected regions in and around Japan only.

The Bold, the second 3G BlackBerry (first supporting US frequency bands), launched in the U.S. in November 2008, after several snags delayed its release. The Bold went through several revisions before its official launch to ensure it operated properly on AT&T's 3G network and to hammer out software issues.

The Bold

Later in 2009, BlackBerry have released a new model of BlackBerry Bold, the BlackBerry Bold 2 or the 9700. According to many cellphone philippines enthusiasts, all the familiar pre-loaded BlackBerry applications are available on the Bold 9700. The Bold 9700 also offers BlackBerry Messenger 4.7 but is upgradable to 5.0 in the BlackBerry App World. For more information visit to our site at http://www.myayala.com

Nokia E5 vs Nokia E72

Posted by Admin | 12:54 PM | Compare, E-series, Nokia, Nokia E5, Nokia E72 | The Nokia E72 and Nokia E5 are Blackberry-type full Qwerty keyboard devices in the Nokia E-Series devices. The E-Series is commonly used to denote Enterprise class devices which are designed with the business user in mind.

Just as the E72 is the successor model to the E71, so the E5 succeeds the E72. Surprisingly, the newer E5 has an inferior battery, 1200 mAh versus the 1500 mAh of the E72, subsequently the talk time rating has dropped but the standby time has increased. Is it possible that a way has been found to make the device consume less power on standby? We really don't think so.

Both the phones are identical in almost every way, running the Symbian 9.3 OS and utilising 5-megapixel cameras with almost identical features across the board. However, the E72 has a front camera for video calls.

The screen of the E72 is a 16M colour type and the screen of the E5 is a 256K colour type. Include the front-facing camera and it is obvious why the E72 costs a little bit more than the newer E5. It would then come down to whether you want to pay a little but more for a couple of extra features.

Nokia X6 vs iPhone 4

Posted by Admin | 12:59 PM | Compare, iPhone, iPhone 4, Nokia, Nokia X6 | The iPhone 4 and the Nokia X6 are pretty similar in that they have 5-megapixel cameras, are 3.5G and Wi-Fi capable and have 32GBs of memory. Of course, Apple also has a 16GB version of the iPhone 4.

The X6 runs the Symbian 9.4 OS whilst the Apple runs on the iPhone OS4. Frankly, except for minor differences in the specifications, both these devices are almost the same from a technical point of view.

It bewilders us that the iPhone 4 is two and the half times the price of the Nokia X6 simply because of the brand. I would probably for the lower-priced Nokia if I had to choose. It doesn't make sense to pay that much more for the iPhone 4 unless the whole idea is to simply proclaim that one can afford the expensive toy.

Blackberry Storm or Blackberry Bold - Which One Is Better?

Blackberry has created two great phones that have similar features. They include camera, built in GPS, Media Player, Video recording, maps, wireless e-mail, organizer, browser, corporate data access, phone, sms/mms. Although, they are different in physical appearance they have many of the same features and functions. Consumers will have to really dig when comparing and contrasting them before making a final decision.

For a more in dept look of the two cell phones, I am going to compare and contrast their most popular features starting with the Storm and then the Bold. The display windows of both has transmissive TFT LCD, Font size (user selectable), light sensing screen; supports over 65,000 colors. One however, has a 3.25 inch screen size with a high resolution of 480 x 360 pixel color display and the other has a 2.6 inch screen size with half VGA resolution of 480 x 320 pixel color display.

Next the camera on the first one comes with 3.2mp, auto flash, auto focus and 2x digital zoom. The second one only has 2.0mp with flash but is equipped with 3x digital zoom. Both may require a microSD card to enable the video recording feature depending on the amount of memory available.

The battery life has a slight difference. Stand by time is 15 days and the talk time is 6 hours vs. a stand by time of 13.5 days and talk time of 4.5 hours. Both have a removable/rechargeable cryptographic lithium cell battery.

You will not get lost with either phone because they both offer a built in GPS system and maps. These features allow you to plan and view your trip right on the screen, save a list of favorite places you like to visit and step by step driving directions to any location of your choice.

They both have built in 3.5mm stereo with headset compatibility, integrated earpiece/microphone, speaker phone and Bluetooth ready. However, one has a touch screen keyboard (allows you to type by touch) vs. a QWERTY keyboard (allows you to type on a regular keyboard) on the other. The built in microphone is a great asset to both phones because it allows users to send voice e-mails. This comes in handy when you are in a hurry, don?t feel up to typing or want to give a message in person but are unable to.

They both have media player which allows you to watch video or audio formatted programs, allow you to edit your Microsoft word or PowerPoint slides (copy and past, adjust font and other formatting) and doubles as an iPod allowing users to create their own playist list for easy listening.

The Blackberry Storm and the Blackberry Bold are very similar with few differences. Overall the Blackberry Storm offers a little more. It offers better picture resolution, more digital camera MPS, a longer battery life and more built in memory. However, if you don?t like touch screens and prefer the usual keyboard style, the Blackberry Bold offers it. There are such minute differences between the two; one would have to begin to look at styles, colors, prices and services to help them make a choice.

The RIM BlackBerry Bold Vs Apple’s iPhone 3G Battle Of The Smart Phones

by: Christopher West The consumers and companies win with the BlackBerry Bold can sync with a companys BlackBerry Enterprise server and it also supports Microsoft Exchange's push email server. You can also configure the Bold to work with POP3 and IMAP4 e-mail accounts as well. RIM has remained loyal to it’s core customers government and enterprise while dipping it’s toes in the consumer pools. Over the past year the BlackBerry Curve has replaced the BlackBerry 8700 as the BDOC. Meanwhile Apple has only recently made plans to venture into the enterprise market which is where they are hoping to make their next fortune.

Many people consider this smartphone to be the BlackBerry device that is designed to take on Apple’s iPhone 3G in the enterprise environment and even dip into the high tech consumer market as well. Powered by a 624 MHz mobile processor and support for tri band HSDPA and enterprise grade Wi-Fi networks the Bold makes short work of downloading email attachments, streaming video or rendering webpages. The BlackBerry Bold also includes 128 MB Flash memory plus 1 GB on board storage memory as well as and a microSD/SDHC memory card slot that is conveniently accessible from a side door.

If the battery is running too low, the Bold won't shut down but will disconnect the radio, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antennas, the other features of the phone remaining accessible. However if the phone is put to charge the radio antenna will not be switched on immediately but rather after 10-15 minutes of charge. Battery life was thought to be an issue on the Bold by many but it lasted three days before I decided to juice it up. There is no option to switch from 3G to Edge which I think is a travesty because every other 3G smartphone on the market has the ability to do so.

After few weeks of testing BlackBerry Bold and beside a few minor problems we only have adjectives of approval for it. The Blackberry Bold is RIM's next generation full size Blackberry that will have the latest cutting edge technology built in including a new larger keypad, 802.11 WiFi, 3G HSDPA wireless, Bluetooth, as well as a GPS chip for location based maps and services. Microsoft and Apple promote the lack of third party involvement as a security advantage but I'm not convinced that's how it will appear to the companies that have learned to trust and rely on the BlackBerry.

Is Your Company Data Secure? Blackberry Hacks Are Here

There's a new route into your company's secure data. It's the Blackberry PDA. A hacking program has been developed which exploits the relationship between the Blackberry itself, a company's internal server and the network connection to which both are attached. The hacking program works because the data tunnel between the Blackberry and the server is encrypted. Intrusions can't be detected because the protective systems, such as firewalls, exist at the perimeter of the network. This begs the question of all business owners whose employees use a Blackberry: Is your company data secure?

The hacking technique is successful because there are very few companies equipped to detect and intrusion from the inside of the network. Another reason for hacking success is the fact that companies don't see the Blackberry as a potential attack vector. The Blackberry is not your normal handheld device. It's a continuously running code machine that's always on and always connected to your internal network. It has constant direct access to whatever you give it access to and most company structures allow complete access to the internal network for their employees who use Blackberries.

BBProxy is the name of the Blackberry hacking program. It can be loaded on the Blackberry either physically or via e-mail as a Trojan horse. Once loaded, the Blackberry will call back to the hacker's system and open communication channels between the hacker and the internal network of the company. This process runs in the background behind the safety of the company's firewall scanning for hosts with vulnerabilities in security and is generally undetected.

Recently, an ad on eBay sold a Blackberry "AS IS" for approximately $15.00. While the device didn't come with a cable, synching station, software or manual, it did come with something far more valuable. This Blackberry came with a stockpile of corporate data all there for anyone to read as soon as the device was turned on. Many employees are insufficiently trained concerning security issues for the electronic devices they use on a daily basis.

Company data is stored as attachements on a server, rather than the Blackberry itself, so if a device is ever lost or misplaced someone could easily read sensitive documents. The Blackberry lacks encryption capabilities and relies instead on users locking the device with a password. Unfortunately, anyone with hacking abilities could discover the password and let themselves into the network.

The beauty of the Blackberry is that it's a do it yourself type of device. It basically allows you to take your office with you wherever you go and not be caught unprepared or without the correct documents of a given meeting. However, for individuals and companies who handle and funnel much of their business dealings through these wonderfully useful devices, both internal and external server security must be taken into account.

Blackberry Bold or Nokia E71 - which one is better?

by: Caroline Telford

Released within a month of each other, the Blackberry 9000, better known as the Blackberry Bold (May 2008) and the Nokia E71 (June 2008) are obvious rival smartphones from these perennial rival smartphone makers as they look, feel, and function very much alike.

Both devices are just about equally sized, at 114 mm x 66 mm x 14 mm for the Blackberry and 114 mm x 57 mm x 10 mm for the Nokia. And both weigh just about the same with the Blackberry weighing in at 133 g to a slightly lighter Nokia's 127 g.

Both devices have a QWERTY keypad occupying the bottom half of the face of the device with a small display screen (2.6 in on the Blackberry, 2.36 in on the Nokia) above it. Interestingly, the display screens on each device possess a quality superior to that of their counterpart. The Blackberry has better resolution, at 480 x 320 pixels to its competitor's 320 x 240 pixels; but the Nokia has more colors, at 16 million to its competitors meager 65,000.

Then, for a matter of simple preference, the Blackberry Bold's primary navigation is a trackball whereas the Nokia E71 uses a 5-way scroll key. Also a simple matter of preference, the Blackberry runs on the Blackberry OS, the Nokia on the Symbian OS.

Other similarities amongst these two candybar competitors are their built-in GPS with mapping capabilities (the Bold using Blackberry Maps, the E71 using Nokia Maps - each coming preinstalled), as well as voice dialing, photo calling, video calling, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP, and speakerphone. They also both operate on AT&T's EDGE network and support HSDPA and 3G.

Also, both devices sport microSD card slots for expandable memory up to 8 GB, though the Blackberry has more more internal memory, at 1 GB to the Nokia's 110 MB (both devices have 128 MB onboard RAM though). And both devices have a USB v2.0 port, though the Nokia also has a microUSB port.

In terms of multimedia features they each have built in digital cameras, but the Blackberry Bold's is only 2 megapixels while the Nokia E71's is 3 megapixels. Both cameras, however, have LED flash and video recording capabilities. Both devices also have a built-in MP3 player.

Also worth noting, along these same lines, is that unlike the Blackberry (or most smartphones, for that matter) the Nokia does not have a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack but rather a 2.5 mm audio jack, making headphone and speaker compatibility a bigger issue with the Nokia. The Nokia, however, has an infrared port while the Blackberry does not.

You can view Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents on both devices, but you can only edit them on the Blackberry.

The battery on the Bold gives up to 5 hours of talk time and 310 hours of standby time. The battery on the Nokia gives up to 10 1/2 hours of talk time in 2G or 4 1/2 hours in 3G, and 410 hours of standby time in 2G or 480 hours in 3G.

Deciding between these two devices is a tough call, and may come down to extraneous features such as the availability of preferred 3rd party apps. Or you may just prefer the Blackberry operating system to Symbian. You may also lean towards the Blackberry Bold if you want to be able to edit Microsoft Office docs, though you might lean towards the Nokia E71 if you'd rather take crisper digital photos. Really these two devices are quite comparable.
